Where you put your attention will flourish and where you take your attention away from will wither.

Before you start reading – take 30 seconds to try this simple experiment now.

Close your eyes, breathe deep into your belly, open your eyes and:

Look at something beautiful or pleasing in the space you are now in – a beautiful flower, your favourite cup, a picture of a loved one, take a moment to notice when you focus on this how does it make you feel? What sensations do you feel in your body? How are your energy levels? Motivation?

Now turn your attention to something not so pleasant or something that irritates you like a stain on the carpet or the old curtains you keep meaning to change…whatever it may be, bring your attention to the negative in your environment and then once again check in with how you feel? You should notice subtle changes in your body and mind.

Now take this idea and spread it to the wider areas of your life. For example, think of where you live, the house, the area, there are probably aspects that you love and maybe some that you would change if you could.  For example, I love where I live but it is on a busy main road, not so great for my son to go out and play or for peace and quiet, however, we have the beach around the corner and I feel very fortunate to have what I do. The situation of the house doesn’t change but my energy changes significantly on where I put my attention.

Now once again think of other situations in your life, your work, your relationships, all of these key areas have the power to be sources of joy and abundance OR if you focus on what they lack to feed a negative habit of discontentment and wishing for things to be different.  Your attention is a precious gift and how you use it is essential to developing and sustaining a positive mind-set that is the foundation for manifesting what you desire. Training your brain to be present to the moment is a significant part of manifesting abundance as before you can create more of what you wish for it is essential to acknowledge and show gratitude for the multitude of blessings you already have such as your loved ones, your home, enough food to eat etc…

When you live and love from a higher consciousness and presence you notice and observe so much more in our world.  Through this noticing, you are in a privileged place to see opportunities that you would miss entirely if you remain locked in thoughts.  Think of a beach that is dense with fog that clears and the full beauty of the place become apparent.  In short, you are open to the full beauty and possibilities that the universe is literally handing to you on a plate. It is this space that what people call luck or chance that you can attract what you desire into your life.

Applying Attention to Intention

It is a very powerful thing to apply your directed attention to your intention.  This is the basic principle of the law of attraction.  We ask the universe and the universe delivers.  While this simplifies the process the core of it is true.  You need to be clear on what you want and then to visualise it with a high level of emotion AND then take practical steps to make this happen.  Your internal world meets your external world. Most people look to the outside world first to make changes they want but the key to manifesting what you wish for into your life is to create it first internally and then be proactive in your external environment to turn wishful thinking into a reality.

Shawn Achor, an American psychologist and researcher of Positive Psychology is the author of the Happiness Advantage.  His work illustrates the importance that being happy is what creates success rather than the other way around.  This internal process is essential to attracting what we want in our lives. By creating this internal framework of attention on your intention you will automatically move to a place where you will attract positive people, situations, and events in your life.

Letting go of attachment to the outcome is the last and final step. If something you have been working on doesn’t manifest for whatever reason, trust that it was not meant to be for you. Think back on your life and notice that in the past there are things you believed you really wanted and maybe wished for greatly that did not transpire and then in hindsight you were pleased that they did not happen. This is the universe protecting you. All you need to do is trust it.
