Every time you smile you are fighting off stress and anxiety and boosting your mood. That’s why Mental Health Ireland is asking everyone to make their pancake smile today.

Smiling triggers us to think back to joyful memories, further improving our mood. Even forcing a smile reduces stress and makes you happier.

Martin Rogan, CEO of Mental Health Ireland said “Let’s encourage everyone to get involved on Pancake Tuesday. Every smile invites another in return so we’d like everyone to have some fun making your pancake smile while connecting with family, friends or colleagues”.

To get involved in the #smileypancake campaign just follow these four steps.

  1. Make or buy a pancake
  2. Pop a smile on it
  3. Share it #smileypancake
  4. Text MHI to 50300 to donate €4 to Mental Health Ireland.

All money raised nationally will help fund Mental Health Ireland’s schools programmes including their Art & Photography Project and Expressions Project. Both are aimed at Post Primary students encouraging open conversation about mental health and wellbeing in class rooms, communities and homes.

Each time you smile at someone you are creating a symbiotic relationship that allows both of you release feel good chemicals in your brain. So this Pancake Tuesday let your pancake do the smiling so you can too!
